• Few Tips On How To Choose The Perfect Hair Extension

    Posted by Gift Odiete

Everyone wants to achieve that natural hair extension look. Hair extensions should flow with your natural hair seamlessly if doing a partial sew in and blend so well that others are not able to tell that you are actually wearing extensions. Or you can get bundles and a closure or frontal to match flawlessly. When purchasing hair extensions there are three things you should keep in mind:

    • Texture of the hair

    • Length of the hair

    • Color of the hair

     Texture Of The Hair

Consider the texture of your hair, is your hair straight, wavy or curly? Choose your hair extensions according to the texture of your hair, avoid wearing curly extensions if you have straight or wavy hair as it will not look attractive and may even be difficult for you to manage. If you choose a hair texture that does not match your natural hair, then your hair extensions will not look as natural or blend with your hair. Needless to say, you will have to buy hair extensions according to the texture of your hair.

    Length of the hair

No matter what your reason for getting extensions is, it's important to choose the right length. Here are some things to consider when deciding on hair extension lengths. Before you decide on a length, be sure to consider whether you want wavy/curly or straight hair extensions. Wavy/curly extensions tend to look slightly shorter than straight extensions due to the texture of the hair. If you are planning to opt for Wavy/curly extensions, you may want to go one size longer than you would if you're planning to buy straight extensions. Also, keep in mind that wavy/curly extensions tend to feel heavier than straight extensions when you wear them. Comfort is another factor to consider when trying to decide on a length that is right for your hair extensions.

    Color of the hair

One of the problems that most women have with extensions are the fact that they do not perfectly blend into their natural hair because the color is just slightly off. A perfect color match means your hair extensions will blend seamlessly with your hair and look very natural. When purchasing ombre extensions simply match the base color of the extensions to your own hair color and then choose the ombre color you want. If you have short or medium length hair, you will be able to wear ombre hair extensions without already having your own hair ombre. (No chemicals required, no money spent on color at the salon).

  • You Can Ombre Your Own Hair

    Posted by Gift Odiete

First things first what is an Ombre? Ombre is the French word for color that is shaded or graduated in tone.

There are two types of ombre: Traditional, and reverse. The traditional ombre has a lighter color at the tips of your hair than at the roots, while a reverse ombre has darker tips and lighter roots.

Reverse ombre is just a little bit less popular than regular ombre, because it bears a risk of appearing foreign on your beautiful locks. Medium to light toned ladies who love their blonde but want something different and edgy look great in this reverse ombre. Hair texture that is medium to thick

How to achieve the perfect ombre

Step 1: Select your hair color, choosing a color that works well with your natural color is best. You should choose a lighter shade of brown or a shade of blonde.

Step 2: Draw a demarcation line where you want the fade to stop. The lower the fade meets the better it looks.

Step 3: If bundles are installed in head put on an old t-shirt that you wouldn’t mind messing up and comb through your hair thoroughly to ensure even coloring. If bundles are not yet installed place a smock or trash bag on the floor and place bundles on top. you can leave bundles banded up which makes it a lot easier to work with.

Step 4: Put on gloves before dealing with the bleach. You will need to use bleach to lift the color from your hair, use equal parts of whichever volume peroxide you choose and powdered bleach. Mix 2oz each with your choice of volume peroxide and bleach powder until they are combined into a thick creamy consistent mixture.

Step 5: Divide your hair into four even sections. If your hair is long and/or thick, you may want to divide it into more sections. Pin or tie each section off to separate it from the rest. Tease up the hair around the area where you want the ombre to begin. Teasing your hair around this area will help prevent a stark line where you applied the beach.

Step 6: Apply bleach from tips of the hair all the way up to your stopping point and repeat with each section.

Step 7: Let hair sit until it reaches the desired color and then wash the bleach out the hair. Let hair air dry or blow dry the extensions style and you’re ready to rock your hair

  • How To Make Your Dyed Hair Last Longer And Fresher

As we mature we make different decisions, we choose to do whatever we want with our bodies. For many, a dye job is fun and fashionable and for others its actually a necessity because its important they cover the grey hair that just appeared from nowhere. What this two class of people have in common is the fact that they desire to have a lasting dye job.

You can spend a pretty penny on the perfect shade for your tresses. So you want to make sure you don’t wash all that cash and color down the drain. Because it becomes very annoying and frustrating when the dye job stays for only a short period of time before you start getting “psst! your undergrowth is showing” from your friends and family.  What can you do to keep that color where it belongs?

When you dye your hair, the pigments are held captive inside the hair strands, But anything that can lift the hair shaft’s cuticle, allowing pigment particles to escape, can fade that pretty color. One of the biggest color-stealing culprits? H2O. “Plain water dilutes the pigment and causes it to fade faster,”

Here are 3 ways you can touch-up in between:

    Avoid Hot Showers
Hot water doesn’t only dry out your skin; it can decrease the life of your hair color. The temperature opens up your cuticle, releasing your precious color—and moisture. “I always tell my clients to shampoo and rinse with room-temp water, towel dry, condition, then rinse with the coldest water you can stand to seal that cuticle shut,This will provide longer-lasting color, keeping your locks nice and hydrated while also eliminating split ends.”

    Swim Smarter
Protect your hair in the sun and chlorine. Use a hair protector with SPF when in the sun, pool, and ocean to keep your color from fading. A product with sunflower oil is great as it also has antioxidants to protect the hair.

    Don’t Overuse Hot Tools
Staying away from your hot tools the first week after coloring your hair will also help prevent the color from fading, says celebrity colorist Michael Boychuck. Hot tools such as blow dryers and straighteners actually speed up the process of color fading. While these tools are sometimes necessary, it is best to stay away from them the first week or so after you color your hair.

The touch up kit is your friend

If your hair color is already dying out and you don’t have the time or funds to visit the salon then you can use touch up-kit and root pencil provided they match the color on your hair. They would certainly buy you time until your next hair appointment.

Try parting your hair different or try braiding your hair

If you’ve tried everything and yet it fails, then draw attention from your roots by parting your hair in a messy zigzag pattern or you can braid it, this would help the grey’s blend in nicely with the rest of your tresses.

    Use a Thermal Protectant
This will protect against heat damage from styling tools. Thermal protectants will help reduce color fade by keeping the integrity of the hair in good condition

    Deep Condition Less
While deep conditioning or at-home masks are a good idea before you color, they can fade a rich brunette or vibrant red,  The conditioner or mask is designed to get deep in the hair follicle to moisturize. However, when it’s rinsed out, it takes the color molecule with it—resulting in the color fading. To avoid this, a good daily conditioner will do the trick (just don’t leave it on for a long period of time).

    Try a Shower Filter
This will remove chemicals, chlorine, and minerals from your shower water, Hard water strips your hair’s color and natural oils; these filters minimize color rinsing down the drain.

Rethink going Red While show-stopping, red hair colors fade the fastest because crimson pigment molecules are larger than browns and blacks, and the most unstable.

  • 5 THINGS YOU SHOULD STOP DOING ACCORDING TO YOUR HAIRSTYLIST

    Posted by Gift Odiete

    When your hair stylist is a Guru you don’t want to piss him/she off literally because your hairstylist have the characteristic of a magician and a demon at the same time. Our Hair stylist make us look like a million dollar baby and sometimes serve as a pseudo therapist, but there are some things that might just make them want to push you out the door;

    Doubting

Your hairstylist are experts in their field and if they tell you dying your hair fiery red would cause irreparable damage then its best you listen to them rather than cry over damaged hair subsequently.

    Requesting a celebrity haircut

So its fine to request a celebrity hairstyle but we should know by now that celebrities change their hairstyle all the time so before you walk in asking your hairstylist to give you a rihanna hairstyle, do the research find out the one you want and go to the salon with a picture in hand.

    Giving Yourself a Hair Cut

Some of us are self sufficient and we can be creative when it comes to our hair, but if you are one of those people that have no talent for this act then stay clear. Our hairstylist hate it when they have to fix the crap that you did to your hair

    Mirroring Your Favorite Celebrity

Your hairstylist is a person not a magician, if you have the right celebrity hairstyle and you are expecting to see rihanna when you look in the mirror then I don’t think you should be in a salon. Lower your expectations because you might re-create the hairstyle but you can’t look like the celebrity. So don’t take it out on your stylist.

    Pretending You are Happy

There’s no salon that wants you to go about complaining of their service, so if you are not happy with what they have done they would prefer you be upfront with them so they can fix your hair.

Are you a hairstylist? what other thing do you think your customers get into that you hate? Share your experiences with us in the comment section below.
